This week is Parkinson’s awareness week. There are events going on all over parkinsons#

the country to raise awareness of the condition.

127,000 people in the UK have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease which is approximately 1 in 50. Symptoms include tremors, slowness of movement and rigidity.

Parkinson’s UK are asking people to share their experiences of things that make a difference to those with Parkinson’s. They are asking people to upload pictures or statements to social media #parkinsonsin1

ComRes have complied a survey on Behalf of Parkinson’s UK asking people about their experiences.

A third of people hid or lied about their symptoms before diagnosis. A third delayed telling friends and family about their diagnosis.

It was found that some of the emotional responses to diagnosis where very negative

“…like the world had ended…”

“….didn’t know who to turn to…”

Steve Ford, the Chef Executive at Parkinson’s UK said:

“It’s worrying that many people with Parkinson’s, for a wide range of reasons, are not able to access the help they need – and it’s having a devastating impact on their emotional health”
